Using Gmail application in Leeds area on Nokia phone?

My friend's Gmail application on her Nokia phone, sometimes won't send mails. Even worse, it does not tell her that it has not sent mails, like it tells me (an error message comes up on my phone, saying temporary problems with network, etc, so then I save the message to send later - a bit of a problem if one wants to send many messages!) Does anyone else in that area have problems with the Gmail application?
