Can someone please help me find out who my husbands ancestors are?

he was placed in a group home at a young age so he doesn't know his family. his grandmas maiden name was vergie n cobb born may 31 1940 in georgia. died may 13 1997 in lakeland fl. he is wanting to know who her parents were. she had 2 married names 1st whaley and she died as vergie n willis. hes trying to trace his cherokee ancestor and we dont have the money for those sites or services... so please can anyone help us find out who they were?
