I am planning on getting a young pair of convict cichlids.?

As far as a substrate goes, will the black Tahitian moon sand be okay with them. They will be in a 29 gallon tank all by themselves. I am trying to get a breeding pair. I would like a sandy substrate and really like the black. I know these fish dig and it just seems like sand is the better option rather than pebbles since sometimes they can have jagged edges. I just wasnt sure if this was the best way to go. Thanks for the help!
