Films like John Carpenter's The Thing and 1978's Body Snatchers?

I recently saw the two films mentioned above and I really enjoyed them. What other not too gory horror/sci-fi films of the same kind do you think I might like? Preferably 70 's and early 80's, although... any comments on "The Blob" from the 50's? Would you recommend it, given the standard set by The Thing and Body Snatchers?
